FMP

My final outcome is a book and a series of poster attached to a light box. The book has the total of 8 pages which portray the 7 milestones I selected through a series of different obstacles the LGBT community had to faces starting from Stonewall Riots. I have done a stencil like images that are printed on to acetate the 7 stencils includes the Sochi Olympics, Prop 8 vs NoH8, Ellen DeGeners, Don't Ask Don't Tell, AIDS, Havery Milk. For the last pages it consist of a graffiti images of the stonewall inn. As for my poster the 8 pages was put together to form a light box installation and at the last pages also a graffiti of stonewall but this time it is an actual stonewall.

The outcome of my FMP was suppose to be a hanging installation however because I could not get the effect that I wanted and the materials that I used did not actually support the installation I then have to come up with a solution to create my display. I seek the help of my tutor Andrew McCarten, he gave me helpful advices and we came up to the conclusion that in order to show the display I will have to attach the poster into a light box. I am not really happy on the way I had to do it but I had to compromise at the last minute and it was the only way possible to achieve the effect that I need for the FMP. Therefore I have to sacrifice some of the effect I could have display if it was hanging but It was down to my planning. All in all I am glad that I have installed my display before the deadline and everything is on set for the show.

The second outcome of my FMP I am really happy with because it was done perfectly if not better. The pages was associated to the poster on it side and the only compromise I have to do was the cover which was pretty well executed given that It was also done last minute. I am just a little worried because the book is pretty delicate and if not handle properly it could be destroyed. I am hoping that it would still be intact for longer than I expect it will.

Creating this project was really fun. I am glad that I picked Gay Rights as a subject because it allowed me to seek answers that I would have never search for. I feel like a change man after the research that I have been through and It help me to gain a stronger attachment to the LGBT rights movement emotionally. To be honest most of my ideas came up to me watching the films that are connected to my research. It also kept me from thinking outside the box and go around it because this project made me pursue to not use stereotypical thinking in designing. I have learn a great deal of different methods and approaches on designing through this project and I also think I have found my style in terms of what art I want to produce and what portrayal should be in them. I was emotionally and mentally challenge going through this project not only because it was the hardest thing I have done so far coming from a different educational background as an artist but also because the topic has become more and more deep as I uncover more and more information about the things the LGBT community suffered around the world.

I feel like my visits the exhibition has help me lot no on my research but to generate ideas of how to communicate on my audience and achieve what in my own opinion are good and bad. I also have fun combining the old art into modern art and I found out that there is not that much difference it's just a new way of practice. I regret that I haven't done much of sketching work on this project as I have done in other project and I have no idea why but I gathered my idea into watching and observing a I don't feel the like of putting it down as a drawing because the information that I receive was always a rush I just need to keep going and experiment in real life. If i have to do this project again I might use more sketchbook work than digital work however I could argue that I am continuing my student life in Ravensbourne next year and I am going to do a Motion Graphics course and I want to practice as much as possible my digital skills if I want to be one of the best in that field.
